shortformblog:

In which an eight-year-old boy’s decisions, normal for the culture of the country he was living in at the time, are put onto the same plane as a middle-age man’s much-mocked mistake.

Rolling my eyes forever.

So one of my big pet peeves is how people romanticize certain animals to the point that they’re taboo to eat. So long as they’re nonhuman and not endangered, dig the fuck in. Individual abstinence from certain meats due to emotional ties to the animals, sure, but cultures? For like, non-religious reasons? Just cuz we classify Fido as a somehow more worthy animal than Wilbur? Uh.

Of course, I prefer the company of animals most people like to eat over the that of most domesticated pets and have felt like this for ages, so I’ve had time to get over any squickiness.
